No need to buy bottled water, the tap water in Basel and its surroundings is drinkable.
The public fountains in the city also provide drinking water.
Basel features a great number of heritage sites of national significance, including the cathedral (http://www.baslermuenster.ch/), the City Hall/Market Square (http://www.basler-stadtmarkt.ch/), and the entire Old Town. Basel is also host to an array of buildings by internationally renowned architects, including the Beyeler Foundation by Renzo Piano and buildings by Mario Botta (Jean Tinguely Museum) as well as by Herzog & De Meuron.
Basel is a very lively city and one of the most important cultural centres of Switzerland (https://www.basel.com/en/search/culture). The city and its surroundings comprise a large number of theatres, galleries, and museums, e.g.

Its world-famous collection, the Öffentliche Kunstsammlung Basel, now encompasses around 4.000 paintings, sculptures, installations, and videos as well as 300.000 drawings and prints from seven centuries. With the inauguration of the new building and the reopening of the refurbished main building in April 2016, the Kunstmuseum Basel now has three exclusive venues.
Find an overview of the current exhibitions at Fondation Beyeler, Vitra Design Museum, Tinguely Museum, and Kunstmuseum as well as their guided tours on Sunday, June 12, here [PDF (199 KB)].
Consider also visiting the new exhibition at Schaulager, the stunning building by Herzog and de Meuron that hosts the private collection of contemporary art (especially installations) of the Hoffmann collection. Summer in Basel
The Rhine contributes greatly to the quality of life in Basel. In the summer months, you should at least have a walk along the river banks, a drink at one of the refreshment stalls ("Buvetten"), and maybe even a swim in the Rhine: https://www.basel.com/en/summer_in_basel.
Please take note of the security guidelines [PDF (1.1 MB)] for swimmers in the Rhine.

The funny colorful bags that local swimmers use to take their clothes and belongings with them into the water are called "Wickelfisch": http://www.tiloahmels.ch/wickelfisch.php. They are for sale at the refreshment stalls, at the tourist information, and at a range of shops (e.g. Manor, Bider & Tanner etc.).
